South Sudan: Warrap State Provides Subsidized Food Items to Mitigate Rising Prices

The Warrap State government has provided over 9,000 bags of sorghum and maize flour to be solved at subsidized prices in the face of the ongoing economic hardship which has hit hard the poor households.

The food items will be sold in Kuajok and six other counties across the State.

Aluel Garang Garang, the Acting Governor of Warrap State said during a ceremony on Friday in Kuajok that they have tasked County Technical Committees to comply with the fixed price of the food commodities.

A bag of 50 kg of maize flour goes for 120,000 in the local market while the subsidized maize flour introduced by the State officials is selling at 95,000 South Sudan Pound.

“I urge the local authorities to implement the policy of the State government in subsidizing the prices of food, I also warn traders not to buy the subsidized food and no one is allowed to buy more than one bags,” said Garang.

Garang applauded Galada Company Limited for purchasing the assorted food commodities to subsidize food prices in the State.

Santino Ngong Longar, the Chairman of the Food Stuff Management Committee, said the fixed prices issued by the technical committee set one 50 kg bag of maize flour at 95,000SSP while 50 kg bag of sorghum at 70 SSP.

Each of the six counties will be receive1000 bags of food commodities.

The event was attended by Ayiik Manyang Agoth, the State Minister of Housing, Deboraha Awut Mayom, the Minister of General Education, Rose Anyang Ayok, the Minister of Gender and members of the state food stuff management committee.
