South Sudan: VP Igga Denys Allegations of His Office’s Involvement the Arrest of Kalisto Ladu

The Vice President for Economic Cluster Dr. James Wani Igga has refuted allegations suggesting his office’s involvement in the detention of Kalisto Ladu, saying the government was behind the arrest and that the former mayor would be arraigned in court.

Igga made the statement on the four-month detention of Former Mayor Kalisto on Saturday at thanksgiving prayers for veteran politician Alfred Ladu Gore, who returned to the country after receiving treatment abroad.

“If you want to confirm the charges and the evidence that we found against him, we will present this evidence to you in a two-hour video. We spent two hours watching the video, so finally we were told to inform the Bari community that your son is being held by the government because he has committed a crime and we will produce him in court,” Igga added.

Kalisto Ladu, whose detention has been a focal point of public discourse, was reportedly apprehended under circumstances that raised questions about the legality and motivations behind his arrest. The allegations suggest that the Vice President’s office orchestrated or facilitated this detention as part of a broader political strategy. Such claims often involve assertions about misuse of power or executive overreach, which are serious accusations against any government official.

In response to these allegations, the Vice President James Wani Igga has categorically refuted any involvement from his office in Ladu’s detention. His statements emphasize a commitment to upholding legal processes and maintaining ethical governance. The Vice President has likely pointed out that any actions taken regarding Ladu’s situation were conducted by law enforcement agencies operating independently of political influence.
