CEPO Expects South Sudan to Reap Big Deals at China-Africa Summit

The South Sudan government is expected to benefit in terms of development and peace initiatives from the upcoming Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) set to kick off on September 4th in Beijing.

 Edmund Yakani, the Executive Director for the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization, Edmund Yakani urged the visiting delegation led by President Salva Kiir Mayardit to take advantage of the forum to lobby for development initiatives.

“CEPO is expecting the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation to come up with functional and concrete resolutions that will immediately be taken into action as seen with similar summits across the globe,” said Yakani in a statement on Sunday.

Yakani said the world requires promotion of peace, stability and partnership, adding that there is need to share knowledge and skills for the interest and mutual benefits of the global citizens.

He said that that South Sudan stands to benefit in terms human and social development with full political commitment for honoring the responsibility to protect peace and stability including transparency and accountability.

The FOCAC summit is scheduled to take place in Beijing from September 4 to 6.

According to Global Development Policy Center, China’s economic ties with Africa has deepened significantly since the inception of the FOCAC in 2000 and the China-Africa Development Fund in 2006.

South Sudan has already signed a memorandum of understanding with the People’s Republic of China to promote joint development in the fields of agriculture including food production, marketing, research, animal production and aquaculture.

President Salva Kiir Mayardit traveled to the People’s Republic of China on Saturday to participate at the three-day summit.
