Ugandan singer Mayanja Ibrahim, popularly known as Big Eye StarBoss, has made public his intention to contest for a parliamentary seat in the 2026 general elections.
In a post shared on his social media platforms, Big Eye addressed critics who have questioned his political involvement.
“Dear fellow citizens, greetings to you all. I’m tired of seeing comments from some people saying, ‘Big Eye, leave politics and focus on music.’ So, let me set the record straight: I am deeply involved and committed to the politics of my country, and I will never step away from it.”,he stated.
He continued, emphasizing the importance of political participation, saying, “It matters to me greatly as a Ugandan citizen because the state of our nation affects us all. Politics is what determines the future of every Ugandan.”
Big Eye further revealed that he is seriously considering running for a parliamentary seat, motivated by the encouragement of National Unity Platform (NUP) President, Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine. He expressed his desire to serve the country more actively, stating that his involvement in politics will not interfere with his music career.
“Music is my business, but my commitment to my country is a priority,” he added.
Big Eye, who previously supported the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), switched allegiance to the opposition NUP in 2023.
Here’s his full statement:
“Dear fellow citizens, greetings to you all,
I’m tired of seeing comments from some people saying ‘Big Eye, leave politics and focus on music’ on some of my social media posts. So, let me set the record straight: I am deeply involved and committed to the politics of my country, and I will never step away from it. It matters to me greatly as a Ugandan citizen because the state of our nation affects us all. Politics is what determines the future of every Ugandan.
In fact, I’m considering running for a parliamentary seat in the 2026-2031 term in my constituency, as our president, HE Robert Kyagulanyi, has strongly encouraged us to do. This will allow me to contribute more actively and practically in serving my country.
First off, I am above 18 years old. Second, if not us, then who? And third, music is my business, but my commitment to my country is a priority.
