The newly elected Member of Parliament for Kawempe North, Erias Luyimbaazi Nalukoola, has officially been designated to serve on two critical Parliamentary committees.
Just weeks after being sworn in, Nalukoola has been appointed to the Sectoral Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, as well as the Standing Committee on Human Rights.
The designation was made by the Opposition Chief Whip, Hon. John Baptist Nambeshe.
“I have designated Hon. Elias Luyimbazi Nalukola to serve on the Environment and Natural Resources committee and the Human Rights committee,” stated Nambeshe.
Despite concerns about the over-subscription of the Environment and Natural Resources committee, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, confirmed the designation would stand—primarily due to the current Parliamentary term nearing its conclusion.
“We are aware of the over-subscription on the Natural Resources committee, but given the term’s end, we’ve had to make some adjustments,” Tayebwa noted.
Nalukoola, who was elected to replace the late Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya—who passed away on January 9—has also taken over his predecessor’s position on the committee.
While his victory is still being contested by NRM’s Faridah Nambi, Nalukoola remains committed to executing his responsibilities as mandated by his constituents.
