Wiz Kaka: The Rising Star Crafting His Own Beat

For Kakaire Derick, known on stage as Wiz Kaka, music isn’t just a career is a calling. The Ugandan artist, businessman, and self-proclaimed social butterfly discovered his love for music back in high school, a time when his passion first found its voice.

“I realized music is my calling the moment my passion for it became clear,” he shares. “It all started in high school when I used to mime Wizkid songs.”

It’s no surprise then that his stage name is partly inspired by the Nigerian star who first lit that musical fire within him. “Wiz” pays homage to Wizkid, while “Kaka” comes from his surname, Kakaire.

Drawing influence from African heavyweights like Wizkid, Burna Boy, and a blend of Western artists, Wiz Kaka’s music is a vibrant fusion. His sound transcends genres, incorporating dancehall, Afro, reggae, and R&B. But at the heart of his music lies something deeper.

“My sound is a happy, love and life expression,” he explains. “I’m always inspired by my environment, my mood, and the experiences I go through.”

Creating Magic, One Beat at a Time

Wiz Kaka’s creative process is fluid and spontaneous. “Sometimes an idea starts as a thought, sometimes in the studio. I get a beat, and then boom the magic happens,” he says with a smile.

Among his released songs, “Terikuninza” holds a special place in his heart. “But to be honest, the songs I feel most connected to haven’t been released yet,” he hints, suggesting there’s much more to look forward to.

Despite his undeniable talent, Wiz Kaka admits that breaking through in the music industry hasn’t been easy.

“My biggest challenge is being very talented but not having the exposure I need. The whole process is expensive,” he confesses.

Still, he celebrates his small victories like the moment one of his tracks streamed in the tens of thousands. “That was a huge moment for me. It showed me people are listening,” he says.

He’s also learned hard lessons along the way. “Not everyone who says good things to you or appears to support you is actually rooting for you,” he warns. “This industry is a hard place to break, even with great music.”

Time management, he says, is the key to juggling his music, business, and personal life. And above all, his spiritual foundation keeps him grounded.

“Everything I do is Godly-oriented,” he says. “I never do things without God.”

When he’s not in the studio, Wiz Kaka enjoys reading, discovering new skills, and of course, listening to music. His role model? Burna Boy, hands down.

Looking Ahead

With new music in the pipeline including his latest track “Kebuzibye” Wiz Kaka is optimistic about the future.

“I see myself as a star, one that will shine for a very long time,” he says confidently.

His parting words? A reminder for anyone chasing a dream: “Life is a choice. Choose to be better, and always choose to go forward.”

You can find Wiz Kaka’s music on all streaming platforms and follow his journey across social media.
