Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana Charged With Terrorism

Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana has been charged with terrorism following an amended charge sheet by the Director of Public Prosecutions that erased the deceased Muhammad Ssegirinya.

Ssewanyana, together with Mike Sserwadda, Jackson Kanyike, Bull Wamala, and John Mugerwa, was arraigned before ICD judge Alice Komuhangi Khauka on Monday, who read to them their new charge.

According to the charge sheet, Ssewanyana is separately charged with aiding and abetting terrorism.

The prosecution alleges that between January and August 2021, in Kampala, Rakai, and Masaka districts, Ssewanyana, while armed and with intent to intimidate a section of the public for political, social, or religious reasons, directly participated or was complicit in the murder of Kizza Mugerwa, Sulaiman Kakooza, and Tadeo Kiyimba and the attempted murder of Ronald Sebyoto, all residents of Ssettaala village.

State Attorney Richard Birivumbuka requested the court to convict the accused of murder, attempted murder, and aiding and abetting terrorism. However, Justice Komuhangi said the court will examine the evidence presented by the prosecution and will deliver a ruling on the confirmation of the new charges in August.

The new charges against Allan Ssewanyana follow his accusation of the Nyendo-Mukungwe legislator Mathias Mpuuga for masterminding his arrest in the same case.
