Museveni, Ruto to Launch Coffee Africa Park with New Sports Facilities in Ntungamo

Presidents Yoweri Museveni of Uganda and William Ruto of Kenya are expected to officially launch the Coffee Africa Park this Saturday in Rwashamaire, Ntungamo District, as part of the inaugural Coffee Marathon—an event blending agriculture, athletics, and community empowerment.

Alongside the marathon, which has drawn national attention for its goal to uplift rural women in coffee-growing communities, organizers have announced the construction of a comprehensive sports complex within the park—a significant development for the region.

According to the Inspire Africa Group, which is spearheading the project, the park will include a 2,000-seater stadium equipped with a professional athletics track, scheduled to be completed by October 2025 to coincide with the annual Coffee Festival.

The facility will also feature:
• An Olympic-sized swimming pool
• A basketball court
• A tennis court
• Plans for a regional Coffee League across sports disciplines
• A new football team intended to enter Uganda’s national football calendar

“This is a transformational moment for rural sports in Uganda,” said Dr. Nelson Tugume, CEO of Inspire Africa. “We’re not just celebrating coffee, we’re investing in the next generation of athletes who come from the very communities that grow this country’s most valuable export.”

The initiative is part of a broader strategy to position the Coffee Africa Park as a hub for tourism, education, and sports development in western Uganda.

Athletics icon Dorcus Inzikuru, who is serving as the marathon’s ambassador, praised the vision behind the park. “It’s rare to see this level of investment in rural sporting infrastructure. This could be a breeding ground for Uganda’s next champions,” she said.

The Coffee Marathon, which is expected to attract thousands of runners from across Uganda and the region, will also raise funds to support rural women in coffee value chains. The event includes 5km, 10km, 21km, and 42km race categories, and will culminate in a major concert featuring top regional artists.
