Mathias Mpuuga Unveils New Political Party – Democratic Front

Former National Unity Platform – NUP Deputy President for Buganda Region and Mukungwe Member of Parliament Mathias Mpuuga has unveiled his new Political Party ahead of the 2026 General Elections.

Named the Democratic Front, the party was unveiled on Tuesday morning by Mpuuga, flanked by fellow MPs Abed Bwanika of Kimanya-Kabonera constituency, Juliet Nakabuye, the Masaka City woman Member of Parliament and Micheal Kakembo of Entebbe Municipality.

The unveiling of Mpuuga’s new party comes 14 months after he was suspended as National Unity Platfrom Deputy President over several allegations involving receiving Shs500 million as a service award during his tenure as Leader of Opposition on Parliament.

The Democratic Front promises to bring  freshness to Uganda’s political landscape as the country readies itself for the general elections.

“It is born out our motherland’s need for meaningful transformation that transcends the tired cycle of recycled ideologies. It is a home for logical thinkers, progressive minds, and those who believe in political ethics and disciplined service delivery,” Mpuuga said at the launch.

“We’ll work with other parties to cause change in the country. The fracturing of the opposition is a big concern to us,” he added.
