Police Probe Fire That Razed Small Businesses in Kinawataka

Police have opened investigations into a fire outbreak that destroyed several small businesses in Kinawataka, Ntinda, on the night of Tuesday, May 27, 2025.

The fire, which broke out at around 10:00 PM, tore through a row of kiosks located along Ntinda-Kiwatule Road in Bukoto II Parish, Nakawa Division, Kampala District.

The affected structures were home to various small-scale businesses, including coffee shops, food vendors, hotels, and interior design workshops.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed the incident and said the matter was promptly reported to Ntinda Police Station, leading to a quick emergency response.

“On the night of 27th May 2025 at approximately 10:00 PM, a fire outbreak occurred at a row of kiosks along Ntinda-Kiwatule Road in Kinawataka, Bukoto II Parish, Nakawa Division, Kampala District. The incident was promptly reported to Ntinda Police Station,” said ASP Owoyesigyire.

He noted that a team from the Fire Prevention and Rescue Services responded swiftly and deployed multiple firefighting units to the scene.

The fire was successfully contained before it could spread to adjacent structures.

“Police responded swiftly, and a team from the Fire Prevention and Rescue Services was dispatched to the scene with multiple firefighting units. The fire was successfully contained, preventing further spread,” he added.

While no fatalities were reported, several business owners suffered significant losses. The police acknowledged the impact on the livelihoods of those operating in the area.

“Several individuals, including small business owners, were affected. The victims include operators of coffee shops, hotels, and interior design businesses. No fatalities have been reported,” ASP Owoyesigyire stated.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but investigations are ongoing to establish what triggered the blaze.

“The cause of the fire is yet to be established. Investigations are underway. Further updates will be provided as the inquiry progresses,” he added.
