Afrigo Band, Uganda’s most iconic musical group, will mark 50 years of legendary music on August 16, 2025, with a historic concert at Millennium Grounds, Lugogo.
Formed in 1975 by a group of eight musicians led by Moses Matovu, Afrigo Band has released 22 albums and over 200 songs, becoming the soundtrack to generations of Ugandans—punctuating moments of joy, celebration, marriage, and even sorrow.
Speaking at a press briefing held today at the Sheraton Hotel Kampala, Ali Alibhai, CEO of Talent Africa Group, said:
“The Legends of Sound: Afrigo at 50 is about celebrating our icons while they are still on stage. It is also a reminder to the next generation of what true consistency and musical excellence look like.”
He added:
“Afrigo Band at 50 is a milestone that deserves a grand celebration. We honour the legends who have shaped Uganda’s music and cultural identity over the decades. This event will set a new benchmark for how we celebrate our musical heritage and will inspire audiences to build legacies—not just hits.”
Afrigo Band frontman Moses Matovu attributed their longevity to teamwork, passion, and a deep commitment to their fans:
“We’ve stayed strong all these years because we’ve worked together, stayed active, loved what we do, and always put our fans first.”
The celebration will also feature a special guest performance by Koffi Olomide, the celebrated Congolese singer-songwriter, who has confirmed his appearance on the night.
The event is being organized by Talent Africa Group, and is proudly powered by Stanbic Bank Uganda, CFAO Mobility, and Tusker Malt Lager.
