Burahya Storm Into Semi-Finals with Dominant Win Over Kitagwenda

Burahya County have become the second team to seal a place in the semi-finals of the 2025 MTN Kabode Tooro Kingdom Masaza Cup following a commanding 2-0 away victory over Kitagwenda County on Sunday.

The visitors, who came into the clash with momentum from a 2-1 win over Ntoroko in their group opener, made no mistake at Mahyoro Playground as they secured a second consecutive win to top Group B with six points from two matches.

Ronald Kikonyogo put Burahya ahead in the 27th minute with a composed finish that gave them control of the game going into the break. In the second half, John Nyakoojo doubled the lead, calmly slotting home to put the result beyond doubt and extinguish any hopes of a Kitagwenda comeback.

Burahya head coach Frank Businge was full of praise for his players after the win.

“Kitagwenda is not an easy team, especially when you find them at home. I’m happy that we have managed to win,” said Businge. “We played a good game, created many chances, and managed to score in both halves.”

The defeat marks a disappointing end to Kitagwenda’s campaign, as they bow out of the tournament without a single point. They had earlier suffered a 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Ntoroko, who finish second in Group B with three points.

Despite the result, Kitagwenda’s Richard Musiimenta was named Man of the Match for his standout performance and was awarded an MTN Kabode smartphone after the final whistle.

Kitagwenda captain Mayanja Hamimu expressed regret over the team’s campaign but vowed they would come back stronger.

“This season we didn’t play to our expectations and we are going back to the drawing board to plan for the next edition,” said Hamimu.

The result sets up a mouth-watering semi-final showdown between Burahya and Fort Portal, the Group A leaders, in a two-legged encounter.

Elsewhere, Group C action resumes next Sunday with top-of-the-table Mwenge North hosting second-placed Mwenge South in what is expected to be a decisive fixture. The winner will face Kayaka County, who qualified for the semi-finals as the best-ranked runner-up across all groups.

As the fourth edition of the MTN Kabode Tooro Kingdom Masaza Cup enters its final stretch, fans across the region are bracing for an exciting climax to what has already been a pulsating tournament.
