Afrigo Band, Uganda’s most celebrated musical group, is preparing to mark a historic milestone—its golden jubilee. The band announced plans for the grand celebration during a press conference ahead of the anniversary concert, set for Saturday, August 16, 2025, at the Kampala Sheraton.
Speaking with heartfelt gratitude, the band members reflected on their unparalleled journey in the music industry, noting that their five-decade run is a feat unlikely to be matched any time soon.
Veteran vocalist and MP Racheal Magoola described the moment as a blessing. “We are thankful for everything, because becoming a legendary band like Afrigo is no small achievement. We’ve performed for five generations, and it’s magical to see children and grandchildren singing along to our songs,” she said.
Magoola called the upcoming show a once-in-a-lifetime experience. “Fifty years is not celebrated every day. Many of us will not witness another band reach this milestone, so this is an event everyone should be part of.”
An Iconic Collaboration
The celebration will feature Congolese superstar Kofi Olomide, adding an international flair to the historic night. Founder Moses Matovu expressed his excitement: “We are humbled to be joined by the star of Africa, Kofi Olomide, on our 50th anniversary. This will be a night that will remain in Ugandan music history.”
Olomide also praised the band’s remarkable legacy. “Marking 50 years of success is an incredible achievement. Many of us aspire to do what Afrigo has done, but it’s not easy.”

Aly Alibhai, CEO of Talent Africa Group—the event organisers—hailed Afrigo’s enduring influence. “For 50 years, Afrigo has been the soundtrack of Uganda, inspiring generations. Now we get to celebrate their incredible journey and the joy they’ve brought to so many.”
