Beatrice Mao Set To Unveil Her Manifesto

The race for Kampala Lord Mayor has gained new momentum after Beatrice Nambi, wife to Justice Minister and Democratic Party (DP) president Norbert Mao, was officially nominated to contest in the 2026 elections.

Nambi, who is set to unveil her manifesto ahead of the campaign season, described her nomination as a fresh opportunity to bring change to the capital. She previously attempted to join the 2021 contest but was disqualified over voter registration issues, which she says have now been resolved.

“Last time, I was unfairly locked out. But this time I am ready, and 2026 will be the year Kampala experiences new leadership,” she told journalists shortly after her nomination.

Her candidature has already energized DP structures, with her posters and campaign materials appearing at mobilization events across the city. The party’s backing for Nambi came after member John Bosco Kamoga stepped down, allowing her to run as the party’s flagbearer.

This sets the stage for a high-stakes battle against incumbent Erias Lukwago, who has held the office since 2011 and is seeking a fourth term under the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF). Lukwago recently secured his party’s endorsement as he prepares to defend his seat.

Also in the race is former Nakawa East MP Eng. Ronald Balimwezo, who will carry the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket, adding to what promises to be one of the most competitive mayoral contests Kampala has seen in years.
