Entebbe Club was the scene of stimulating competition as it hosted the September edition of the MTN Quarterly Tee, which also served as the finale of the Inter-Club Championship. The championship brought together top players from Entebbe Club, Uganda Golf Club, and Kigali Golf Resort & Villas in a contest that underscored the spirit of regional golf.
The host club, Entebbe, secured the overall Inter-Club Championship crown with a combined tally of 1,116 points. Uganda Golf Club finished second with 1,038 points, while Kigali Golf Resort & Villas placed third with 738 points. The Entebbe side sealed their victory with consistent performances from their leading players across the three rounds.
In the September MTN Quarterly Tee, standout performances were celebrated across categories. Stephen Magero produced an impressive round of 63 to take overall honours, while Ruth Akello emerged top in the MTN category with a net score of 65. Other notable winners included Maxi Byenkya in the ladies’ Group A with a net 69, and Paul Habyarimana in the men’s Group A with a net 68. The competition also featured strong displays from seniors and juniors, as well as impressive drives and accurate pin shots that showcased the depth of talent on the course.
Speaking during the prize giving, the President of Entebbe Club applauded MTN for its continued support and for continuing to create memorable experiences for golfers and fans alike. He also thanked MTN for hosting Inter-Club Championship finale that offered both competition and camaraderie.
Andrew Bugembe, MTN Uganda’s Chief Financial Officer and the 1st Runner up in the MTN category, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the sport, highlighting that MTN’s partnership with Entebbe Club is about building a strong golfing culture that inspires both established players and the next generation. “Together our Drive is Unstoppable, and this event is proof of what can be achieved when communities come together through sport,” he said.
In addition to the competitive categories on the course, the event also featured a variety of special prizes that celebrated style and participation, including awards for the best dressed golfers. These touches added to the festive atmosphere of the day and ensured that both performance and spirit were recognised.
The September Quarterly Tee closed with renewed energy and anticipation for the upcoming calendar. With the Inter-Club Championship concluded, the stage is set for more competitive golf that strengthens regional ties and continues to grow the game.
