Vipers Sports Club has announced it will not participate in the Uganda Premier League’s newly introduced format, accusing organisers of ignoring its concerns and undermining the competition’s integrity.
In a letter dated 2 October 2025, club president Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa informed the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) and the Uganda Premier League Secretariat that Vipers would withdraw from the league, beginning with the scheduled double-header against Kitara FC at Namboole Stadium on 4 October.
The club said FUFA failed to address issues it raised in previous correspondences on 23 August, 23 September, and 29 September 2025, as well as during meetings with the federation. Instead, Vipers claims it has faced ridicule, blackmail and marginalisation in both mainstream and social media.
“This behaviour is not only unethical and disrespectful, but also disregards the sacrifices we make as a privately owned football club to elevate the sport,” the letter stated.
Vipers added that introducing the reforms in the 2025/26 season was “untimely and inappropriate” and warned that FUFA’s unilateral changes threatened the club’s very existence.
Dr. Mulindwa said Vipers SC would explore all legal and football governance channels to defend its rights as a full FUFA member. Copies of the letter were also sent to the Minister of Education and Sports, the National Council for Sports, Uganda Premier League management, sponsors, partners and supporters.
