Godfrey Aine Kaguta’s Nomination Sparks Hope for Mawogola North’s Future

A wave of optimism swept through Mawogola North Constituency on Wednesday as Godfrey Aine Kaguta, widely known as Sodo, was officially nominated as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for the 2026 parliamentary elections.

The nomination ceremony, held at the Electoral Commission offices in Sembabule District, drew hundreds of supporters who cheered the declaration as a “new dawn” for the constituency. Clad in yellow NRM attire and carrying placards with the words “Unity, Service, Progress”, supporters escorted Sodo.

For many in Mawogola North, Sodo’s candidacy symbolizes renewal and continuity, a blend of fresh leadership and deep local roots. His entry into the race follows the withdrawal of incumbent Hon. Shartsi Musherure Kutesa, a move that has reshaped the political terrain in Sembabule ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Speaking shortly after his nomination, Sodo struck a tone of reconciliation and progress, pledging to unify communities and promote inclusive development.

“Mawogola North is one family,” Sodo said. “Our strength lies in working together, farmers, youth, women, and leaders alike, to unlock the full potential of this great constituency. My focus is on service, empowerment, and opportunities for every household,” he added.

Sodo’s campaign message, refined over months of engagement with residents in Mpigi, Sembabule, and other parts of the region, has revolved around job creation, agricultural productivity, youth empowerment, and expanding access to government development programs.

As the 2026 elections draw nearer, Sodo’s nomination has set the stage for what many predict will be a highly engaging campaign season. His blend of humility, accessibility, and development-focused agenda has already won him admiration among youth and grassroots communities across Mawogola North.

“This is not just about politics,” Sodo remarked. “It’s about restoring faith in leadership and building a constituency where everyone feels included and empowered.”

Ms. Annet Nakimuli, was also nominated as the NRM flag bearer for the Sembabule District Woman Member of Parliament seat. Nakimuli pledged to champion women’s empowerment, healthcare, and education initiatives across the district.

“Our women are the backbone of every household and the drivers of community resilience,” Nakimuli said. “I am committed to ensuring that their voices are heard, their businesses are supported, and their children have better opportunities.”

The double nomination of Sodo Kaguta and Annet Nakimuli has energized NRM supporters in Sembabule, with party leaders expressing optimism that the pair will consolidate the Movement’s dominance in the district.

With his official nomination now sealed, Godfrey Aine Kaguta heads into the campaign trail with  momentum, carrying with him the hopes of a community eager for unity, growth, and transformation.
