Diamond Trust Bank (DTB), a leading financial institution in Uganda, has been named the winner of the Sport Award of the Year at the inaugural Annual Bankers’ Awards.

The awards, organized by the Uganda Bankers’ Association (UBA) in partnership with the Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services (UIBFS), were held at the Mestil Hotel in Kampala.

Established to recognize and celebrate excellence within Uganda’s banking and financial services sector, the awards highlight institutions and individuals who demonstrate exceptional performance in areas such as customer service, financial inclusion, digital innovation, and corporate social responsibility, including staff wellness and sports.

DTB Uganda continues to prioritize the holistic well‑being of its employees. In its 2024 Integrated Report, the bank describes a structured wellness programme comprising physical well‑being sessions, app‑based healthcare, and ongoing occupational health & safety training to foster a safe and healthy workplace.

Speaking on the recognition, Godfrey Sebaana, the CEO of DTB Uganda stated:

“We are immensely honored to receive the Sport Award of the Year. At DTB, we firmly believe that the well-being of our staff is directly linked to our organizational vitality. This accolade is evidence of our proactive and institutionalized approach to ensuring our team remains healthy, motivated, and high-performing. We have embedded sports and fitness into the very fabric of our corporate culture.”

DTB is also exploring ways to scale up its internal health initiatives, including expanding its fitness challenge participation, organizing more regular wellness check‑ins, and developing team-based sports as part of its corporate culture.

Elaborating on what this award represents for the bank, Sebaana added, “This recognition represents more than just competitive success; it symbolizes our investment in our people. A fit and healthy team is a more engaged, collaborative, and resilient team. This award validates our philosophy that taking care of our employees’ physical and mental health is a basis of delivering exceptional service to our customers and driving sustainable growth for Uganda’s economy. We are proud to be leading by example in the financial sector.”

In a symbolic gesture underlining DTB’s leadership in the sector, the Chief Executive Officer of DTB Uganda, Mr. Godfrey Sebaana, was also on hand to present awards to other distinguished winners during the ceremony.
