Vipers Thrash UPDF to Close Gap on UPL Leaders

Vipers SC cruised to a dominant 5–1 victory over UPDF FC in a rescheduled Uganda Premier League match played at St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.

Gusto Mulongo struck twice, while Milton Karisa, Moses Waiswa and a deflected effort from Robin Kane Hney sealed an emphatic win for the hosts. The match had been postponed earlier due to Vipers’ CAF Champions League engagements, and the three points lift them to 16—just one behind joint table leaders KCCA and SC Villa, who have both played two more games.

Karisa opened the scoring from close range after UPDF failed to clear a delivery from Usama Arafat. Mulongo doubled the advantage with a brilliant solo move after being teed up by Allan Okello.

UPDF reduced the deficit through Samuel Ssekamatte’s well-taken free kick, but Vipers restored their two-goal lead just before halftime when Mulongo headed in another pinpoint cross from Usama.

In the 56th minute, Vipers added a fourth as Robin Kane Hney’s shot took a deflection on its way into the net. Waiswa wrapped up the rout late in the game, slipping the ball through goalkeeper Abdul Kimera’s legs after being set up by Ashraf Mandela.

The result puts Vipers back on track following their 1–1 draw with rivals SC Villa over the weekend. They next travel to Lugogo on Friday to face NEC FC.

UPDF’s struggles continue, with this loss marking their sixth defeat in eight matches. They remain third from the bottom with only six points.
