South Sudan: Kiir’s Private Secretary Replaced in Rapid Shuffle

On Monday evening, South Sudan President Salva Kiir dismissed his private secretary.

In a decree aired on the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Cooperation (SSBC), Kiir removed Moses Rou Ayii from his role as Private Secretary and Aide to the President, appointing Akol Santo Arech as his replacement.

This change comes barely a month after Kiir relieved Deng Bona Bang Dhel and appointed Moses Rou Ayii to the position. Ayii’s removal after such a brief tenure highlights a continuing pattern of rapid reshuffles within the presidency, where senior aides are frequently appointed and dismissed without public explanation.

These frequent changes in a highly sensitive office have sparked speculation about internal power struggles, loyalty issues, and shifting political strategies within President Kiir’s inner circle.

In a related move, Kiir also dismissed John Mading Bol, Deputy Commissioner General of the South Sudan Revenue Authority, and appointed Moses Rou Ayii—formerly his private secretary—as the new Deputy Commissioner General.
