Police Detain Two Suspects in Killing of South Sudan Lawmaker Luka Mathen

Police in Juba have apprehended two individuals in connection with the fatal shooting of Council of States member Luka Mathen, who was killed on Saturday night. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation.

The incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. in the Referendum Area, Dillard Block 4, where two people were shot, including Hon. Luka Mathen, the representative of Cueibet County in Lakes State.

National Police Service spokesperson Major General James Monday Enoka confirmed that the suspects are in custody and investigations are ongoing. He stated that a criminal case has been filed at the Dilla Police Division and that information from the suspects may lead to the identification of other individuals involved in the crime.

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm while the investigation continues, promising regular updates as the case progresses.
