President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni rallied supporters in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District, on Tuesday, delivering a strong message on the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) core priorities of boosting household incomes, fostering wealth creation, and generating employment opportunities as key drivers of Uganda’s progress.
Speaking at a campaign event held under heavy rainfall, the President drew on historical lessons to illustrate why the NRM has consistently emphasized transforming family-level economies in parallel with large-scale national infrastructure projects.
“Back in the bush days, the Kampala–Gulu highway was already paved, yet many residents along it lived in grass-thatched huts or mud-walled homes—even those with iron-sheet roofs often had mud walls,” Museveni recalled.
“Infrastructure was present, but real household prosperity was missing.”
This observation, he explained, has guided the NRM’s approach: prioritizing initiatives that enable families to build sustainable wealth and break free from poverty, beyond merely constructing visible public works.
Museveni identified commercial agriculture as the government’s top strategy for income growth, stressing that farming must be approached intelligently to yield profits.
He advised small-scale landholders to shift toward intensive, high-value methods, while those with bigger plots could pursue broader-scale operations.
“Choosing the right enterprise for your land is crucial—it decides whether you prosper or stay trapped in poverty,” he told the crowd.
The President also spotlighted Wakiso District’s strengths in craftsmanship, small-scale manufacturing, and industrial activities, describing these as vital engines for creating numerous jobs and elevating household earnings, particularly among young people.
“Wakiso stands to gain immensely from artisans, workshops, and industries—these are powerful avenues for employment and wealth,” he remarked.
Expressing appreciation for the crowd’s dedication, Museveni thanked Nansana residents for enduring the downpour to hear his vision.
“I am grateful to the people of Nansana who stood in the rain to absorb this important message on wealth creation and job opportunities,” he said.
The gathering is one of several campaign stops in the central region, where President Museveni is actively promoting the NRM’s economic transformation agenda in the lead-up to the January 15, 2026, general elections.
