The National Unity Platform (NUP) has dramatically increased its representation in the Busoga sub-region’s parliament, securing eight seats in the latest elections—up from only one in the previous term.
Until recently, Jinja City Woman MP Manjeri Kyebakutika stood as the sole NUP legislator from Busoga. The party’s newly elected MPs are:
Timothy Batuwa of Jinja South West), who previously won the seat under the Forum for Democratic Change – FDC banner successfully defended it on the NUP ticket.
Paul Mwiru made a comeback to parliament as Jinja South East legislator taking the seat from ruling NRM’s Nathan Nabeta Igeme.
Comedian Hussein Muyonjo, popularly known as Swengere won the Jinja North seat unseating David Aga Isabirye of the FDC.
Sarah Lwansasula took the Jinja City Woman MP seat from Manjeeri Kyebakutiika who was denied the NUP ticket.
John Odwori took the Kagoma North seat from NRM’s Alex Brandon Kintu.

Nasser Mudiobole won the Iganga Municipality slot unseating Peter Mugema.
