Russia’s Putin Hails Museveni’s 71.6% Win in Uganda Election

President Vladimir Putin of Russia has extended congratulations to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda following his re-election, highlighting the enduring strategic partnership between the two countries.

Museveni secured victory in the January 15, 2026 general election with 71.6% of the votes.

In his official message, President Putin expressed optimism that Museveni’s ongoing leadership would further bolster the longstanding friendly relations and advance mutually advantageous cooperation between Russia and Uganda.

This statement reflects the solid diplomatic ties the two nations maintain.

President Museveni’s win has also drawn congratulations from several other heads of state across Africa, the Middle East, and beyond.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi praised the Ugandan electorate’s confidence in Museveni and reiterated Egypt’s dedication to deepening bilateral relations.

The United Arab Emirates leadership similarly offered its felicitations. Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan described the result as a testament to the people’s trust in Museveni’s leadership and vision, while expressing eagerness to strengthen the brotherly ties between Tanzania and Uganda.

Additional regional leaders who sent messages of congratulations include Rwandan President Paul Kagame, Burundian President Évariste Ndayishimiye, Kenyan President William Ruto, and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

Their statements acknowledged the election outcome and conveyed hopes for continued development and enhanced regional collaboration.

After the results were declared, President Museveni addressed the nation, outlining his priorities for the upcoming term.
