The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) contingent in South Sudan, operating under Operation Mulinzi wa Kimya, commemorated the 45th anniversary of Tarehe Sita through a series of civil-military activities aimed at strengthening ties with local communities.
The celebrations were officiated by Col JM Kabila, Special Forces Command (SFC) Component Commander in South Sudan, representing Joint Task Force Commander Brig Gen Anthony Lukwago Mbuusi.
In his address, Col Kabila underscored the enduring significance of Tarehe Sita, describing it as a powerful symbol of patriotism, Pan-Africanism, and selfless service.
He paid tribute to serving personnel, veterans, and fallen heroes from both Uganda and South Sudan, commending their discipline, loyalty, and vital role in promoting regional peace, security, and stability.
A key highlight of the anniversary was the commissioning of a newly constructed pit latrine at Dingdong Primary School in Mangalla Payam. The facility was jointly handed over by Col Kabila and Juma Marcellino Sebur, Director of Mangalla Payam.
The UPDF medical team also conducted a two-day free medical outreach programme in Mangalla Payam and at Dingdong Primary School. Over 1,500 residents received treatment for a range of conditions, including infectious diseases, cardiovascular issues, respiratory disorders, endocrine and metabolic conditions, and gynaecological problems.
Speaking on behalf of local authorities, Sebur expressed deep appreciation for the UPDF’s demonstration of brotherhood and solidarity. He thanked the contingent for extending essential free medical services to the Mangalla Payam community and Dingdong Primary School.
Lt Col Alex Habyona, representing Battle Group Commander Col Bernard Kashemeza, called on residents to uphold the spirit of fraternity. He emphasized the deep historical and cultural bonds between Uganda and South Sudan, urging continued mutual support.
The event drew attendance from Asset Commander Steven Namolo, Maj Benon Bamuhimbise, Gondokoro Payam Director Karlo Insak, and other senior officials from both military and civilian sectors.
Operation Mulinzi wa Kimya continues to support regional stability while fostering goodwill through community-focused initiatives in South Sudan.
