Nam Blazers Seek First Win Against UCU Canons Tonight

Namuwongo Blazers will be desperate for their maiden victory of the 2025/26 National Basketball League season when they host UCU Canons this evening at the MTN Arena, Lugogo.

The Blazers opened their campaign last Friday with a 65–74 defeat to the defending champions City Oilers.

In that game, only two players reached double figures: Peter Obleng with 11 points and Moses Mugisha with 10.

New signing Nyembo Fataki contributed 8 points and 11 rebounds on debut but couldn’t prevent the loss.

Shooting woes plagued Namuwongo throughout the match—they converted just 7-of-30 three-point attempts (23.3%) and missed 13 of 25 free throws (48%).

Coach Stephen Nyeko will again be without key forward Tonny Drilleba, who remains sidelined with an injury.

Nigerian import Anthony Chuckwurah has also not yet returned to Uganda and is expected to join the squad later in the season.UCU Canons, meanwhile, enter the contest in good form after a convincing 79–64 win over Uganda Martyrs in their season opener.

The university side will look to build on that momentum and extend their early-season winning streak against a still-searching Blazers team.

Tip-off is scheduled for tonight at Lugogo.

The game promises an intriguing battle as the Blazers aim to shake off their opening-night struggles while the Canons seek to solidify their status as early contenders.
