UPDF Conducts Free Medical Outreach in Kamwokya Ahead of Women’s Day

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has carried out a one-day free medical outreach in Kamwokya, Kampala, as part of activities leading up to International Women’s Day celebrations on March 8, 2026, at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

The medical camp, held at KCCA Primary School Kamwokya, provided residents with a wide range of free health services delivered by UPDF medical personnel.

Speaking at the event, Director of Women Affairs in the UPDF Charity Bainababo said the initiative reflects the army’s broader commitment to community welfare beyond physical security.

“As the people’s army, we do not only provide physical security but also support other aspects of human security such as health and economic empowerment through programmes like Operation Wealth Creation,” Bainababo stated.

She explained that the outreach aimed to deliver free treatment while fostering interaction, counselling, and trust between the UPDF and the community.

Kamwokya was chosen due to ongoing engagement between the UPDF and ghetto community structures working with Gen. Salim Saleh.

“Such initiatives help guide youth away from unrest and encourage participation in government programmes aimed at improving livelihoods,” she added.

The medical team, led by Ronald Nkumbi, offered antenatal care, treatment for respiratory conditions, nutritional assessments, HIV testing and counselling, health education, and guidance on personal hygiene.

“We are here to bring essential health services closer to the community,” Nkumbi said. “Many people face challenges accessing health facilities, so we have brought these services free of charge. The turnout has been very encouraging.”

Residents welcomed the outreach and praised the UPDF for reaching underserved communities.

Beneficiary Nazziwa Noelin said the camp had provided much-needed relief.

“We are grateful to the UPDF for bringing these services to us. Many people have received treatment and medicine today,” she said.

Nazziwa appealed for similar programmes to be expanded to other ghetto areas where healthcare access remains limited.

The outreach aligns with the UPDF’s community engagement efforts and comes ahead of International Women’s Day activities, which will include celebrations and recognition of women’s contributions at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
