KCCA Edges Police 2–1 to Keep Pressure on Leaders Vipers

KCCA FC kept the pressure on league leaders Vipers SC with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Police FC at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Friday night.

The 13-time champions struck early when Herbert Achai’s free-kick caused chaos in the Police box and crossed the line in the 16th minute.

KCCA doubled their advantage around the half-hour mark through Said Mayanja, who finished off a move involving Ivan Ahimbisibwe.

Police responded quickly as Lawrence Tezikya pulled one back two minutes later, but KCCA held firm for the remainder of the contest to secure all three points.

The win moves KCCA to 39 points, third on the table — just two behind leaders Vipers and one behind second-placed Kitara.

Earlier in the day, Kitara missed the chance to go top — at least temporarily — after being held to a 1–1 draw by struggling UPDF at Bombo Military Barracks Ground.

Ivan Bogere gave UPDF a surprise lead in the 70th minute after finishing from Ibrahim Makumbi’s assist.

Kitara responded late when Living Kabon converted from the penalty spot in the 81st minute after Shaban Muhammad was brought down in the box.

The draw leaves Kitara on 40 points, one behind Vipers who have a game in hand.

BUL on fire

At the FUFA Technical Centre, BUL delivered the day’s most emphatic performance with a 5–1 demolition of Calvary.

Jerome Kirya opened the scoring in the 19th minute before Isaac Wagoina converted a penalty seven minutes later.

Abdul Karim Ndugwa added a third on 35 minutes, though Junior Emmanuel Ojok briefly reduced the deficit for Calvary just before halftime.

Wagoina struck again in the second half and completed his hat-trick late on to seal an impressive win that lifts BUL to eighth with 26 points.

Meanwhile, NEC continued their steady climb up the standings with a 2–0 away victory over Lugazi at Lugazi Stadium.

Samuel Kayongo proved the difference, scoring in the 51st minute before calmly converting a penalty in the 72nd to secure the win.

The result moves NEC up to seventh place on 30 points. At the bottom, Calvary remain rooted with just 5 points, while UPDF stay second from bottom despite their valuable point against Kitara.
