This handover follows a similar outreach conducted by on 5th March 2026 at Luzira Prison, where MTN MoMo extended Ramadhan support to both the men’s and women’s wings through the donation of essential food hampers aimed at supporting inmates during the fasting period.

At Luzira Prison, each wing received hampers comprising of food stuffs and other cooking essentials, to provide practical support during Ramadhan. The joint engagement with KCCA saw hampers that included essential food items, distributed to women road workers who dedicate themselves daily to keeping Kampala clean.

Speaking at the handover, Peter Ochen, the General Manager, Financial Operations at MTN MoMo, emphasized the importance of community presence during Ramadhan.

“Ramadhan Kareem with MTN is about more than connectivity or transactions; it is about standing with our communities during a sacred and reflective season. Through these alms handovers to Luzira Prison and our partnership with KCCA to support women road workers, we are demonstrating our commitment to celebrating and uplifting the Muslim community in practical and meaningful ways,” Ochen said.

He further noted that MTN MoMo continues to empower customers through its International Money Transfer services, enabling families to stay financially connected across borders during the Holy Month.

“During this Ramadhan season, customers who send or receive money via MTN MoMo International Money Transfer stand a chance to win a fully sponsored trip. In addition, we are rewarding our customers with weekly Ramadan shopping prizes throughout the fasting period, culminating in a grand Eid shopping winner at the end of Ramadhan. Through these life-changing rewards, we are strengthening global family connections while giving back to the communities we serve,” Ochen added.

The Executive Director of Kampala Capital City Authority, Hajjat Sharifah Buzeki, commended MTN MoMo for supporting the women, especially during the Holy Month of Ramadhan when acts of charity and compassion are strongly encouraged.

She also called for deeper collaboration between MTN and the city authority to improve the livelihoods of Kampala residents. She noted that partnerships could include initiatives that enable vendors to access financing, expand their businesses, connect to markets, and benefit from broader economic opportunities within the city.

The Lord Mayor of Kampala, Erias Lukwago, welcomed the initiative and noted that the timing was particularly meaningful.

“MTN MoMo could not have done this at a better time, with International Women’s Day approaching. This gesture is very welcome and speaks to the importance of supporting the women who work hard every day to keep our city clean,” he said.

The joint initiative reflects a shared commitment between MTN MoMo and KCCA to ensure that the blessings of Ramadhan reach vulnerable and hardworking members of the community, particularly women whose daily efforts keep the city running.

The “Ramadhan Kareem with MTN” campaign encompasses a range of activities throughout the Holy Month, including mosque activations, Iftar dinners, and alms giving initiatives across the country. MTN Uganda is also supporting customers with a special seasonal bundle offer where customers who purchase any voice or data bundle worth UGX 1,000 or more in a day receive 10 free MTN-to-MTN minutes valid from 12:00am to 5:00am the following day.

Through these combined efforts, MTN MoMo and MTN Uganda continue to reinforce their role not only as financial and connectivity service providers, but as committed community partners during Ramadhan.
