Hajji Omar Mandela Set to Retain SC Villa Presidency Unopposed

Hajji Omar Ahmed Mandela is set to continue as president of SC Villa for the next four years after emerging as the sole valid candidate in the club’s presidential elections.

SC Villa Electoral Committee chairman Brian Kajubi confirmed on Saturday that only Mandela returned valid nomination papers by the deadline.

Five members initially picked nomination forms, but Meywa Farooq, Mbidde Dennis Ssebugwawo, Bulezi Simeon Kawuma, and Ben Misagga did not submit them.

The trio had earlier petitioned the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) to intervene, raising concerns that the Shs100 million nomination fee was excessively high and contrary to the 2021 SC Villa Electoral Guidelines.

Kajubi stated that the Electoral Commission has forwarded Mandela’s name and documents for vetting and further processing.

The commission will release additional information on the vetting outcome and next electoral steps in due course.

The club had set March 22, 2026, as the date for the presidential elections.

Mandela watched SC Villa’s goalless draw against rivals Express FC at Kadiba Stadium with a group of fans displaying placards praising the incumbent.

Under his concluded term, SC Villa regained financial stability and achieved significant on-pitch success, including winning the Uganda Premier League title in the 2023/24 season.

The unopposed return marks a period of continuity for one of Uganda’s most historic and successful football clubs.
