Coach Mike Mutebi Found Safe in Kisubi After Brief Disappearance, Hospitalized for Assessment

Renowned Ugandan football coach Mike Hillary Mutebi, former head coach of KCCA FC and one of the most successful tacticians in the country’s recent history, has been located safe after going missing over the weekend.

He is currently receiving medical attention at a hospital in Kisubi, where health personnel are assessing his condition.

Mutebi went missing on Saturday, March 7, 2026, after attending a Catholic seminar at Kisubi Beach along the Entebbe Road corridor in Wakiso District.

He was last seen around 6:30 pm as participants prepared to return to Kampala.

The veteran coach resides in Kawempe, a Kampala suburb, but failed to arrive home, prompting his family to raise the alarm on Sunday.

News of his disappearance spread rapidly on Monday, March 9, causing widespread concern across Uganda’s football community.

Police at Entebbe Station launched an investigation into the matter.

In a relief update late Monday, Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed that Mutebi had been recovered in Kisubi, specifically around a banana plantation area.

He was immediately taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation.

Authorities have not disclosed further details on his health status or the exact circumstances leading to his temporary absence.

Mutebi is widely regarded as one of Uganda’s most accomplished coaches.

During his tenure at KCCA FC from 2016 to March 2021, he led the club to three Uganda Premier League titles, two Uganda Cups, four Super Cups, and one CECAFA Kagame Cup.

He also had a stint as head coach of the Uganda Cranes national team and more recently coached AS Kigali FC in Rwanda, where he was sacked in April 2022 after four months.

The football fraternity expressed anxiety during the brief period he was unaccounted for, with many taking to social media to pray for his safe return.

His discovery has brought significant relief to fans, colleagues, and former clubs.

Police continue to monitor the situation, though no foul play has been indicated in available reports. Further updates on his recovery are awaited.
