Vivo Energy Uganda, the distributor and marketer of Shell-branded fuels, lubricants, and LPG in the country, recently welcomed key stakeholders from the passenger transport sector for an exclusive guided tour of its Kampala Depot and Tank Farm.
The event, held in early March 2026, provided participants—including leaders from the Federation of Uganda Taxi Operators (UTOF), representatives from the boda boda community, media professionals, and digital content creators—with a firsthand look at the behind-the-scenes processes that ensure fuel quality, safety, and reliability before products reach consumers.
Participants toured the facility’s two fuel depots, the LPG filling plant, and the state-of-the-art product quality laboratory. They observed multi-stage quality assurance protocols, including receipt, sampling, laboratory testing, storage, and dispatch of fuels and lubricants.
Every batch undergoes rigorous testing to meet international specifications and national regulatory standards.
Joanita Mukasa Menya, Managing Director of Vivo Energy Uganda, explained that the initiative underscores the company’s dedication to transparency and building trust in the fuel supply chain.
“Trust in energy products is built through consistency and transparency,” she said. “By hosting stakeholders at our operations, we are demonstrating the systems, technology, and expertise that ensure Shell fuels, lubricants, and LPG meet the highest standards before reaching our customers.”
The Kampala Tank Farm houses Uganda’s first ISO/IEC 17025-accredited fuel quality laboratory, which applies globally recognized testing and calibration methods for petroleum products.
This facility plays a vital role in verifying product integrity and compliance.
Menya highlighted how Shell fuels incorporate advanced additive technology to clean and protect engines, enhance combustion efficiency, and maintain performance.
Paired with high-performance Shell lubricants that reduce friction and withstand tough conditions, these products help minimize engine wear, cut maintenance costs, and extend vehicle lifespan—benefits particularly valuable for commercial operators.
“For commercial transport operators, better engine protection and improved fuel performance translate directly into lower operating costs, fewer service interruptions, and more productive hours on the road,” she noted.
Rashid Ssekindi, Chairman of the Federation of Uganda Taxi Operators, welcomed the engagement and stressed the importance of reliable fuel for the sector.
“We appreciate the opportunity to see the systems and processes that ensure fuel quality before it reaches the market,” Ssekindi said. “For taxi operators whose livelihoods depend on vehicle performance, reliable fuel helps reduce maintenance costs, improve efficiency, and keep vehicles on the road serving passengers.”
Safety was a key emphasis during the tour, with detailed walkthroughs of the company’s strict Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) procedures for product handling, storage, and dispatch.
The depot visit aligns with Vivo Energy Uganda’s ongoing investments in infrastructure, technology, and skills to meet Uganda’s rising energy needs while delivering safe, dependable, high-quality energy solutions for motorists, businesses, and households.
