Ugandan authorities have received 24 head of cattle stolen from Lamwo District and recovered from Teretenya in South Sudan.
The animals were raided between January and March 2026 from Lamwaka B Village, Aringa Parish, Potika Sub-county in Lamwo District.
While receiving the cattle, Lamwo District Resident District Commissioner William Komakech welcomed the recovery and expressed hope that the remaining animals would soon be returned.
“This recovery gives hope to the affected families, because cattle are not only a source of wealth, but also part of the Acholi cultural heritage,” Komakech said.
The handover was led by Mr Timon Loboi, Commissioner of Ikotos County in South Sudan, who assured that his government is committed to tracing and returning all the missing cattle.
He added that compensation would be considered for any animals that may have died or been lost during the period.
Loboi also called for peaceful coexistence and stronger cross-border relations between communities on both sides of the border.
Colonel Gai Mpadwa, Deputy Commander of the UPDF 5th Division, described the recovery and handover as a sign of growing trust, cooperation, and commitment to peace and security along the Uganda–South Sudan border.
Cattle rustling remains a major challenge in the region, often disrupting livelihoods and straining relations between border communities.
