NUP’s Gracious Kadondi Elected Makerere Guild President

Gracious Kadondi, backed by the National Unity Platform (NUP), has been elected the new Guild President of Makerere University.

Kadondi secured a decisive victory over her closest rival, Hannah Karema, in the guild elections held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

According to results announced by the university’s electoral commission, Kadondi emerged victorious with a strong margin, reflecting significant support from the student body.

This win marks another major success for NUP-affiliated candidates in student leadership at Uganda’s premier university.

Kadondi becomes the latest in a series of NUP-leaning students to take top positions at Makerere in recent years.

Speaking after her victory, Kadondi thanked students for their trust and pledged to champion better welfare, improved learning conditions, and greater student representation in university affairs.

The election was largely peaceful, though it attracted intense campaigning from various political groups active on campus.

Makerere University Guild Presidency is one of the most prestigious student leadership positions in Uganda and often serves as a launching pad for future political careers.
