Gen Muhoozi Orders Release of Maj Gen Don Nabasa, Drops All Charges

Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has ordered the immediate release of Maj Gen Don Nabasa after two months in detention.

The release follows an amicable meeting between the two officers during which all charges against Maj Gen Nabasa were dropped.

Gen Muhoozi announced the decision on Thursday afternoon via social media.

“I’m glad to announce after a long meeting with Maj. General Don Nabasa today I have decided to release him and drop all the charges he was facing,” Gen Muhoozi posted.

He added: “I thank him for the good work he has done in our mighty military since he joined in 1998.”

Maj Gen Nabasa, who was serving as Joint Staff for Policy and Strategy at the time of his arrest, was detained in March as part of Gen Muhoozi’s crackdown on corruption and abuse of office within the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).

He was arrested alongside Brig Johnson Namanya, who has also since been released with charges dropped.

Since assuming office as Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi has initiated several high-profile actions targeting corruption in the military.
