President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has made last-minute changes to the newly announced Cabinet, appointing Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng as the new Government Chief Whip.
Dr. Aceng had initially been named Minister for Information, Communications Technology (ICT) and National Guidance, replacing Dr. Chris Baryomunsi.
She has now been swapped with Justine Kasule Lumumba, who was originally appointed as Government Chief Whip.
Lumumba confirmed the change on Thursday evening via a post on X.
“Thank you President Museveni for redeploying me to the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance. I am honoured by the trust and ready to serve with dedication towards Uganda’s digital transformation agenda,” she posted.
The adjustment comes after questions were raised over Lumumba’s initial appointment as Chief Whip, as she is not a Member of Parliament.
Parliamentary convention requires the Government Chief Whip to be an sitting MP.
