MTN Mobile Money (U) Limited has named Phrase Lubega as its new Managing Director, subject to regulatory approval.

Lubega brings more than 30 years of extensive experience in telecommunications, information technology, and financial services.

He has a proven track record in scaling mobile financial services and driving digital innovation across Africa.

The appointment was announced by MTN Group Fintech, with strong endorsements from senior leadership.

“Phrase brings deep market expertise and a proven track record of scaling mobile financial services. His leadership will be instrumental as we continue to expand access to inclusive, secure and innovative digital financial solutions,” said MTN Group Fintech CEO Serigne Dioum.

MoMo Uganda Board Chairperson Sylvia Mulinge added: “Phrase’s deep understanding of the business, strong governance experience and proven leadership across the MTN footprint position him well to drive sustainable value for all stakeholders.”

The company also expressed gratitude to Sarah Bateta Okwi for her leadership and stewardship during the interim period.

Lubega is expected to focus on accelerating growth, enhancing service innovation, and strengthening MTN MoMo’s position as a leading provider of digital financial services in Uganda.
