Teresa Adior Anguei, one of the wives of South Sudan’s former army chief and opposition leader Gen. Paul Malong Awan, has died in Juba after a short illness.
She passed away on Saturday at Nile King Hospital, family members confirmed.
According to her co-wife, Ajok Wol Atak, Adior had been experiencing headaches and fever in the days leading up to her death but did not seek immediate medical attention, believing it was a minor case of malaria.
“She had not complained of any serious health problems, but she had headaches and fever over the past few days and thought it was malaria,” Wol said.
Adior’s condition deteriorated rapidly, leaving her unable to speak or walk.
She was rushed to Nile King Hospital on Saturday, where doctors conducted several tests, including evaluations for possible stroke complications.
She died less than an hour after admission, before the full results were available.
Medical reports later indicated that she died from complications related to high blood pressure.
Born around 1982, Teresa Adior Anguei is survived by four children.
The family has expressed deep sorrow over her sudden passing.
Condolences are expected to pour in from political and military figures across the country in the coming days.
