SC Villa goalkeeper David Lukwago has been recognised for his outstanding performance in the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League season with a special Golden Glove award.

The honour was bestowed upon him by Football Classroom, a WhatsApp-based sports enthusiasts group, during a brief ceremony held at Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo.

Lukwago, who kept a league-high 15 clean sheets in his debut top-flight season, was presented with the Golden Glove and an undisclosed cash prize by Football Classroom CEO Becky Cynthia Nakimera and founder Anthony Tumwesigye.

“Today, we gather not only to celebrate football excellence but also to recognize a player whose hard work, consistency, and dedication have been exceptional throughout the season,” Tumwesigye said.

“A goalkeeper’s job is often one of the most demanding on the pitch. One mistake can change a game, yet week after week, David Lukwago stood tall… His record of clean sheets speaks volumes about his quality, discipline, and commitment to the game.”

Lukwago joined SC Villa from FUFA Big League side Kiyinda Boys in August 2025 and was initially expected to serve as backup.

However, he quickly established himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper with a string of impressive performances.

One of his standout displays came against Vipers SC at Kitende, where he earned Player of the Match honours after producing several crucial saves in a 1-1 draw.

Although he missed out on the official Best Goalkeeper award at the 2025/26 UPL Awards (won by NEC FC’s Hannington Ssebwalunyo), Lukwago said the recognition from Football Classroom has motivated him further.

“That did not dampen my spirit,” Lukwago said.

“Therefore, I want to thank Football Classroom for this initiative. This is a motivation for me to achieve more. I want to commend everyone at the club, especially my teammates and coaches.”

The initiative by Football Classroom was funded through personal contributions by its members to recognise excellence that they felt deserved special acknowledgement.
