Saudi Arabia has suspended outbound travel by its citizens to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Uganda, and South Sudan. The kingdom has also stopped issuing all types of visas and blocked entry for travelers from these three countries as a precautionary measure against Ebola.
The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported the decision on Thursday. The restrictions also cover travelers arriving from third countries who have visited any of the three affected nations within the past 21 days.
Saudi Arabia’s Public Health Authority confirmed that no confirmed or suspected Ebola cases have been recorded in the kingdom since the preventive measures were introduced.
The DRC is currently battling its 17th Ebola outbreak, which was declared in mid-May 2026. The outbreak has mainly affected the eastern part of the country and has already spread to neighbouring Uganda.
As of Wednesday, the DRC had recorded 1,118 confirmed Ebola cases, including 291 deaths. The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that the outbreak continues to outpace response efforts.
