South Sudan: President Kiir Sacks Civil Defence Chief

South Sudanese President Salva Kiir has dismissed the Commissioner General of the South Sudan Civil Defence Service and named a new leader.

According to a presidential decree read out on state television on Thursday, Kiir relieved General Johnson Lusuk Lupai of his duties and appointed Lieutenant General Ruben Loro Karlo as his successor.

The decree, broadcast by the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), gave no reason for the leadership change.
