Nation Media Group (NMG) Uganda management has directed editors at NTV Uganda and the Daily Monitor to immediately stop all online publications and broadcasts as efforts continue to resolve the ongoing standoff with the government.

The directive, issued during a 6 pm virtual meeting with staff, marks a significant shift in the company’s approach following the military-led closure of its physical premises last week.

“No more online publications or broadcasts for now, as we may jeopardise the ongoing state engagement,” staff were informed.

After the raid on its offices in Namuwongo and broadcast facilities at the Serena Centre, NMG had continued limited digital operations.

The company argued that there was no formal directive from the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) stopping online publishing.

The Daily Monitor website remained active with fresh stories, while NTV Uganda produced content including its flagship Luganda news bulletin Akawungeezi, which was streamed on social media platforms.

Journalists reportedly continued covering events using personal resources, without company-branded equipment or identification.

The new internal directive comes as senior NMG management, including ownership representatives, engages with state officials following a high-level meeting with Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

Gen. Muhoozi is expected to present a report to President Museveni before a final decision on reopening the outlets is made.

This latest development effectively silences NMG Uganda’s major digital platforms, leaving audiences without regular updates from the country’s leading independent media house during a tense period.

The situation remains fluid as both the media group and government officials seek a resolution.
