The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) has issued a public notice confirming that ITHUBA Uganda Limited, the operator of the National Lottery, has officially ceased operations in Uganda and is no longer licensed by the Board effective 1st July 2026.

In a statement dated 2nd July 2026, the NLGRB, acting under Section 4(j) of the Lotteries and Gaming Act, Cap. 334, informed the public of the development and urged players to take immediate action.

“Players are strongly advised to withdraw any remaining funds immediately and close their gaming accounts with ITHUBA Uganda Limited,” the notice reads.

The regulator had been engaging ITHUBA over its financial and operational position before the operator stopped offering National Lottery games on 30 June 2026 and ceased trading the following day.

The Board emphasized that the cessation of operations does not absolve ITHUBA of its legal and contractual obligations under the National Lottery Licence and Concession Agreement.

It is currently coordinating with relevant institutions to ensure an orderly transition, with particular focus on protecting players, prize claimants, retailers, employees, and government interests.

The public has also been reminded that engaging with unlicensed gaming operators carries significant risks, including potential loss of funds and lack of legal recourse in case of disputes.

This marks the end of ITHUBA’s tenure as the National Lottery operator, which was launched in 2024 under a 10-year licence.

The NLGRB says it remains committed to maintaining a transparent and accountable regulatory framework for the sector.

Players with outstanding balances or claims are encouraged to act swiftly through ITHUBA’s official channels.
