Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have officially unveiled midfielder Joel Sserunjogi after completing his signing from KCCA FC on a three-year contract.

The 24-year-old becomes one of the Venoms’ major additions as they prepare for a busy campaign that includes defending the league title, competing in the Stanbic Uganda Cup, CECAFA Kagame Cup, and CAF Champions League.

Sserunjogi joins Vipers after three productive seasons at KCCA, where he made over 100 appearances and established himself as one of the league’s most reliable central midfielders.

Prior to Lugogo, he featured for Kajjansi United and gained prominence by helping Busiro win their first Buganda Masaza Cup title in 2022.

His consistent club performances earned him a first Uganda Cranes call-up in 2024.

Since then, he has featured in FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, and was part of the squad that reached the quarter-finals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Vipers head coach Denis Lavagne expressed delight at the signing, highlighting the player’s qualities.

“Joel is a player with intelligence, personality and great technical quality. John ‘Ayala’ Luyinda spoke very highly of him and, after studying his qualities, it was clear he possesses the attributes we want in this team. He will add balance and creativity to our midfield, and we are delighted to welcome him to Vipers SC.”

Sserunjogi, who was officially unveiled at the club’s Kitende base, said he was guided by instinct in making the move.

“I’m somebody who goes with my gut feeling a lot of the time and I feel like it’s steered me in the right direction so far. So, I don’t think it’s going to be any different here. I think it’s going to be a great success and I’m really happy to be here.”

The midfielder is expected to help fill the void left by the departure of hardworking midfielder Taddeo Lwanga and will play a key role in Vipers’ ambitions both domestically and on the continental stage.
