The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Central Executive Committee (CEC) has named three new backbench commissioners to Parliament and appointed former Makerere University Business School (MUBS) Principal Prof. Waswa Balunywa to the party’s top decision-making body.
The decisions were made during a closed-door CEC meeting held at State House, Entebbe, on Friday.
The three new parliamentary commissioners designated by the party are:
- Susan Jolly Abeja – Woman MP for Otuke District
- Faith Nakut – Woman MP for Napak District
- Jesica Ababiku – Woman MP for Adjumani District
Parliamentary commissioners form part of the institution’s top administrative leadership. They oversee governance, the welfare of MPs and staff, and the implementation of parliamentary policies.
The move comes weeks after the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) named John Baptist Nambeshe (Manjiya County MP) as its commissioner on May 28.
NRM Director for Information and Publicity Emmanuel Dombo confirmed that the CEC also assigned NRM and NRM-leaning legislators to various parliamentary committees and leadership positions.
“The Central Executive Committee of the NRM, sitting today at Entebbe State House, designated the NRM and NRM-leaning MPs to the various committees, the committee leadership and to the Parliamentary Commission,” Dombo posted on X.
Additionally, the CEC directed the NRM Parliamentary Caucus to elect the party’s flag bearers for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) on July 5.
