The Ministry of Works and Transport has dismissed as false and misleading social media reports claiming that the government has halted the registration and issuance of digital number plates.

The clarification comes after widespread posts, particularly on TikTok and X (formerly Twitter), alleged that the digital number plate exercise had been suspended.

In a statement issued on Monday, Ministry spokesperson Susan Kataike described the circulating information as untrue and urged the public to rely solely on official government channels for updates.

“The Ministry of Works and Transport wishes to clarify that information circulating on social media, particularly on TikTok and in a post on X accompanied by a video, alleging that the Government of Uganda has suspended the registration of digital number plates, is false and misleading,” Kataike said.

She stressed that the digital number plate programme remains fully active, with registration and issuance services continuing without interruption.

Kataike appealed to motorists and the general public to ignore the misinformation and always seek clarification through the Ministry’s official communication platforms.

She also cautioned against the spread of unverified information, warning that it can create unnecessary confusion and inconvenience for the public.
