18-Year-Old Student Found Hanging Dead at Naalya Secondary School

Police in Bweyogerere have opened investigations into the death of an 18-year-old male student at Naalya Secondary School’s Bweyogerere Campus in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.

The student was discovered hanging inside a school toilet block.

Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said the incident occurred on the evening of July 8, 2026.

School authorities found the student unresponsive in the boys’ section and immediately notified police, who promptly responded to the scene.

“Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased was seen entering the toilet block shortly before he was discovered,” Owoyesigyire stated.

Police recovered a handwritten note believed to have been written by the student.

The note has been secured as evidence, and its contents are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.

The body was transported to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination to determine further details about the cause of death.

Owoyesigyire confirmed that investigations into the circumstances are continuing, and more information will be released as it becomes available.

Police extended their condolences to the student’s family, friends, and the entire Naalya Secondary School community as they grieve the loss.

The tragedy has once again highlighted concerns about student welfare, mental health support in schools, and the importance of stronger systems to assist learners facing personal difficulties.
