The 10 Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) representatives in the 12th Parliament have been officially assigned to various standing and sectoral committees.
Brig Gen David Gonyi, Chief of Staff of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Air Force and Whip of the UPDF MPs, announced the assignments during the sixth sitting of Parliament on July 7, 2026.
Standing Committees:
- Maj Gen Henry Matsiko — Public Accounts Committee
- Brig Gen David Gonyi — Business Committee
- Lt Gen James Mugira — Committee on National Economy
- Maj Gen James Kinalwa — Appointments Committee and Committee on HIV/AIDS and Related Matters
- Col Night Ikiriza — Equal Opportunities Committee
- Lt Gen Sam Kavuma — Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises
- Lt Gen Sam Okiding — Public Accounts Committee (Local Government)
- Col Christine Nekesa — Human Rights Committee
- Maj Gen Joseph Ssemwanga — Climate Change Committee
- Col Sylvia Meeme — Science, Technology and Innovation Committee
Sectoral Committees:

The UPDF MPs were not assigned to several committees, including Rules, Privileges and Discipline; Budget; Government Assurance and Implementation; Subsidiary Legislation; Gender, Labour and Social Development; Lands, Housing and Urban Development; Public Service and Local Government; Finance, Planning and Economic Development; ICT and National Guidance; and East African Community Affairs.
Parliamentary committees play a critical role in scrutinising Bills, reviewing budgets, and overseeing government programmes before matters are presented to the full House. Standing committees operate throughout the term, while sectoral committees are aligned with government ministries and are reconstituted at the start of each session.
This development comes as the 12th Parliament continues to constitute its oversight structures under the new leadership of Speaker Jacob Oboth-Oboth.
