National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has urged public servants to protect their integrity. He stressed that government positions are temporary and should never be used to oppress fellow citizens.

The remarks came after the resignation of Mariam Wangadya as chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights Commission.

In a statement issued on Monday, July 13, 2026, Kyagulanyi said Wangadya’s departure offers a lesson to officials who misuse public office to advance political agendas at the expense of justice and citizens’ rights.

“Offices are temporary but reputations are permanent. Power expires. Titles disappear. Official protection ends. What remains is your name, your conscience, and the legacy of the choices you made while you had authority,” Kyagulanyi said.

He advised public officials to think twice before violating the rights of Ugandans.

“Before accepting the role of persecuting, silencing, or oppressing fellow Ugandans for political survival or personal gain, ask yourself one question: What will remain when the office and the power are gone?” he added.

Kyagulanyi also claimed that the current government does not shield its supporters indefinitely.

“The Museveni regime does not protect its enablers forever. It simply replaces them,” he stated.

He noted that Wangadya’s resignation fits a pattern in which officials serve the regime and are later abandoned when no longer useful.
