The Judiciary has officially kicked off its annual court vacation.

Judiciary Chief Registrar Agnes Alum announced during a media briefing in Kampala that the High Court and Magistrate courts will observe a month-long break starting today, July 15, until August 15, 2026.

She added that the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal will go on vacation from August 1 to August 31, 2026.

“During this period, all court registries across the country will remain open and operate normally to facilitate the filing of new cases and other registry-related activities,” Alum stated.

The annual court vacation is provided for under the Judicature Rules (Statutory Instrument 13-20).

It signals the end of one court term and the start of another, primarily affecting civil cases.

“It is intended to allow judicial officers to focus on writing pending judgments and rulings, weeding out inactive cases from the system, reviewing work from the previous period, and planning for the next period,” she explained.
